Visual Essays: Elemental Singularities
For the past year, I have been working on a series of mixed media collage constructions entitled “Visual Essays: Elemental Singularities.” This series is comprised of sixteen (16), 12 x 12 in. birch plywood panels and utilize photographs, printed ephemera, and correspondence collected over the past forty years with the intent that I would use this material for visual expression and fine art. Since college in the mid-1970s, I have been been inspired by the work of modernist and avant-garde artists Kurt Schwitters (German, 1887-1948), Hannah Höch (German, 1889-1979), and Joseph Cornell (American, 1903-1972). These collage panels express my life’s passions and pains, joys and losses, and the fundamental aspects of my spirit, soul, and being.
